Maybe I’m just confused…

Race. Are we suppose to highlight it or not? Are we suppose to talk about it or not? Is the fight raging on or is it over? Is any publicity good publicity? Does it at a minimum get people to think about choices, life, decisions, experiences, perceptions? Maybe not… maybe it continues to grind people further into their constricted views of life *sigh*. If ethnicity is in the news it’s good… no it’s bad… maybe bad means good? Maybe I just confused…

The Melting Pot

At times I’ve handled my thoughts about race in constructive ways, other times not, but I’ve always been fascinated with race. My post “From My Father’s Knee” tells some of the story. The story of a little girl that as early as she can remember was always questioned about what she was.

As an adolescent, I remember my white friend telling me that boys weren’t going to like my butt, because it was too big. I remember my black friends telling me that it was too small. Curly hair was the thing back then and I had the prettiest curly hair, but… according to my girlfriends, black boys didn’t like hair that was hard with white people mousse and white boys didn’t like greasy black girl hair. Stuck between two worlds.

When I was in high school, I wrote “The Melting Pot”, a paper on the United States and how by the year 2040 the races were going to be so “mixed” that it would impossible for the U.S. to continue Continue reading
